While qualifying for the fourth stage of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Windsor Ontario, Matt Hall encountered a little thing we like to call. . . the water. Check out the video for his amazing performance, which is something of which Sully Sullenberger would be proud.

Hall claims that he broke one of his own rules and “looked into the turn” rather than letting the aircraft fly naturally through it. They always tell you don’t look down, when crossing a high expanse, and that advice would have proven helpful here, as Hall pulled too aggressively on the stick causing the plane to dip too far into the turn, and skip across the waves like a tossed stone. Fortunately all he lost was a shoe, and a clean flying suit, as it could have been much worse, a fact evidenced by the expression on his wife’s face.
