Last September, Hooniverse’s own Tim Odell and I joined the 24 Hours of LeMons’ Supreme Court for the series’ “Vodden the Hell Are We Doing” at Thunderhill Raceway. That race was the first LeMons race on the new five-mile “Thunderschleife” circuit, which allowed the largest field in series history and, as it turns out, in the official record books. After several months of back and forth with LeMons Official Record Liaison Julian Cordle, Guinness finally issued its stamp of approval by sending a poorly proofread certificate of World Records to 24 Hours of LeMons Headquarters in Emeryville, California.

Hm, I'd send them an 'hour,' but I don't have any to spare.
Thunderhills? At least they didn't misspell it "thighs." -
TOTAL DOMINATION.
Would it have been better if they had gotten the certificate right? I don't think so. -
Interesting- I looked up the Nurburgring 24 participation. In 2008 270 cars were entered but could only allow 230.
-
Yeah, but they didn't apply for the record.

I knew The Nurburgring 24 had at least 200 cars- then I read that the LeMons race had over 200… Which is astonishing for a track that isn't 14 miles long. I was thinking they fielded 70-80 cars or something. Damn.
I need to pay more attention to this stuff.

Here's the thing, Jay – there's very likely other events with more cars. Having a world record, however, means that you proved, beyond EVERY possible doubt, that you did what you say you did. For this record, I probably have 60 hours of work, only about 10 hours of which was at the actual race. It's a ton of work, which I think weeds out the people that might want to try.

Let's see if they can break their own record at some point. Road America at 4 miles long might be a good place.

Thunderhill with it's new track extension, which was used for this record, is five miles long. The only other track this length in the U.S. (that I can think of) is VIR.

The 24 of Lemons? I'd watch that. Can Jack Sour save the world, one more time, in just one day? Or will he get squeezed by the tight timeline?!!
